Look at what's > happening on the LED front. I agree with the intent of this warning. But patents DO expire. If Vari*Lite did this 20 years ago, it's public domain now. Also, technology improvements are allowed. If the new product borrows from Vari*Lite technology, but also introduces something new, a new patent can be issued for the new product. The Vari*Lite patent would be referenced as prior art in the new application. Patents are NOT supposed to stifle progress. The LED thing is pushing outside the intended protections of the patent system. Personally I remain optimistic that this particular dispute will end up with the appropriate compromises. But not until several parties have been unfairly forced to spend a whole lot of cash on defence. I can sell five full colortran racks that require 400 amp service installed or I can sell individual dimmer cards. For theLMI Touring rack I am asking $5500. This rack is 96 -2.4k dmx dimmers The dimmer cards are $35 each. A rack with 96 - 2.4k dimmers, I am asking $5500 Purchaser needs to provide transport for every thing.=20 I have had several inquiries about the LMI rack so it won't last long. The problem is that we are in Western Oregon, so shipping is likely to be expensive. But give me some prices and a bit more information and I will talk to the Board of Directors. Thanks Bill ------------------------------ End of Stagecraft Digest #453 *****************************
