Krajec" Subject: Tax session at USITT-Louisville Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2005 14:59:30 -0500 Message-ID: In-Reply-To: OK, This is a shameless plug for a session on taxes at the USITT National Conference and Stage Expo in Louisville. Your presenters will be Richard "Here come da Judge" Niederberg and myself. We'll talk for a short while and then we'll start to entertain subjects from the floor. This has been a popular session in the past. I had someone right to me after the first time we did this thanking us for all the useful information. He went back and re-computed his taxes and saved himself about $1000! Definitely not chump change. This won't be dull and boring! Talk to me off-list if there is something that you definitely want us to address. Possibilities are: What is deductible (e.g., equipment, mileage, uniform, education)? How do I handle per diem? How do I handle being an independent contractor and tax withholding issues? The list is endless. David K. ------------------------------ From: "Dr. Randall W.A. For info, archives & UNSUBSCRIBE, see --------------------------------------------------- There could be some AEA rule compliance issues, but most actors appear to be pretty immodest, especially when it is time for the transmitter packs and wireless microphones to be placed on them, and this remains true with regard to major 'stars' hosting televised 'award' shows. /s/ Richard the problem is that it is ONE dressing room. There was not enough space to accomodate a men's and a women's dressing room. Instead, the architect put two "changing stalls" in the dressing room. Very similar to what you might find in a clothing store. No opportunity for a "star" or private dressing room. And there are no other spaces that could be temporarily converted. I am forwarding this message on behalf of Mac McConnell, who I served as road crew for a while. Mac McConnel does one man biblical dramas, mostly in churches without true stage areas. So, he had to bring the equipment and curtains with him. While he would ideally like to sell the trailer and equipment as a whole, he is open to other options. I believe it is as simple and compact a unit as you can get which will set up to a theatrical system, yet be adaptable to about any stage situation. He will be focusing on his performances which don't require the large set up in the future. ============================= At the bottom of this message are links to a photo of the set to give an idea of it's use and adaptability. and a pdf. file of the inventory. It is quite complete and reflects the best estimate of original value and current condition. most of the items were part of the road show and in good working order. some items are less than 2 years old, and some brand new this year. the NSI Melange Pro light control board is an excellent investment and very versitile. I can easily reccomend this set for semi-permanent installation and of course it is designed as a free standing system if desired. If purchased in So. Florida I will be avalible for some instruction and training. My desire is to place all of the equipement including the trailer that has been used to transport the set, so that i may reduce my overhead and and add some funds to the ministry. I hope not to have to piecemeal the inventory and trust the package price of 50% of original value will be inticing. may God bless you dramatically today! mac mcconnell, < 1 Cor 9:16 954 680 9095 booking office mac [at] BibleActor.com www.BibleActor.com Direct links to the inventory and an image of the set up; http://office.way.org/documents/inventory%207.2005.pdf http://office.way.org/documents/set%20b4%20and%20after%207.2005small.jpg ====================================== Joe Dunfee joe [at] dunfee.com Gordonville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. ------------------------------ Message-ID: Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2005 23:36:09 -0400 From: Brian Munroe Reply-To: Brian Munroe Subject: Re: Accountant, anybody? In-Reply-To: References: There are several accountants in the NYC area who specilize in entertainment taxes, both for performers and technicains. I am in production in Seattle right now, so I do not have the info available (posted on most bulletin boards backstage in NY). Some accountants will deduct movies, video's, DVDs, etc. Some will also say "You read Variety, right? You buy it every week at the newstand, right?"
