Sounds like overkill to me, but it won't do any harm and it gives you the confidence to know that everything is well within spec. Using long runs of DMX is a bit like walking towards a cliff wearing a blindfold. When you stop, you don't know if the edge is a foot away or a few hundred, so most people stop after a short distance to be absolutely safe. The more adventurous walk a bit further, and the foolhardy wind up at the bottom of the cliff. How far you bend the rules depends on the cost of doing it right versus the consequences of it going wrong. A big event can easily afford to chuck repeaters all over the place, as it is much cheaper than having everything fail during the show. All the tests that I have done with RS485 have shown that the cliff edge is a lot further away than the specs say it is. I will keep on walking! It is just a 2-D drawing. I would like to add just a little color for presentation. There is no problem filling the hatches with color, but in the areas without hatches, if I fill with color any lines in the fill are covered. Is there anyway to adjust the opacity of the fill? Or is there something simple I am missing? Also, Renderworks has many other color and texture options. Can I use some of those options in a simple 2-D drawing? Does it have to be a 3-D drawing? I don't want to turn this elevation into a 3-D drawing. On another note, if you haven't seen/tried the sketch option in V11, do so. In the words of Ferris Bueller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend it." The sketch option loosens up any drawing and it doesn't appear so damn mechanical. I don't know Vectorworks, but in Visual CADD this can be done by using a = dot hatch with the scale set so that the dots are dense enough to look like = a fill, but not so dense as to obscure other elements. It will have a menu key which is command-B on macs or ctrl-B on windows. If you have changed your workspace around it may have a different quick key or none at all. Renderworks can only be used with 3D drawings. Strangely, but fortunately, Renderworks is a subset of render options so you can still use the sketch options. Most rendering options only apply to 3D. Go with a perfed screen if you *have* to hang in front of the organ pipes. OTOH, the organ pipes shouldn't be hidden, IMHO. Look here for a bit about sound sources behind screens. Acoustically tranparent is near impossible, 'acoustically translucent' is a maybe. Make sure that the organ music isn't going to vibrate the screen enough to interrutp the viewing pleasure of your audience as well. I will keep on walking! Yep. Just keep in mind that the distance you will get is dependent on a number of variables, such as wire gauge, wire capacitance, cable shielding and outside interference levels. And remember with sound, it's not really about the holes in the screen, it's about the obstructions between the holes. If the obstructions are larger than the wavelength of the sound hitting them, the sound will not "transparently" wrap around them. The holes are merely a side effect of making the obstructions smaller. This may seem like splitting hairs but it is a very important distinction to recognize when judging the acoustic transparency of something. _______________________________________________________ Jason Romney Sound Design Instructor - North Carolina School of the Arts Vice Commissioner for Computing Industry - USITT Sound Commission jason [at] cd-romney.com romneyj [at] ncarts.edu http://www.ncarts.edu/ncsaprod/designandproduction/dtsdw.asp http://www.cd-romney.com ------------------------------ Message-ID: <42E2FD02.8010907 [at] josephchansen.com> Date: Sat, 23 Jul 2005 22:29:22 -0400 From: Barney Simon Subject: Re: Acoustically Transparent Projection Material?
