Rozema" Subject: Strand Node Upgrades I got this handy dandy software for my computer that will let me view my console, and maybe even control it. The problem is I need to upgrade the software on the console. (Strand 520i) So for now, this handy dandy software is just a nice memory stick that I can hang around my neck. I would like to be able to use this software now that I have it. Has anyone upgraded the software on a Strand Node? I'm trying to upgrade the software on the network and I'm not sure what is going on with the Node. I can't even get to any kind of command line. I don't know what I'm doing at this point. The tech support person that I've used in the past is now a part time employee, so the best I can do is leave a message and hope he actually gets it. He doesn't even have voice mail. I'm not even sure what days he works. (I think Vincent lighting has screwed up on this one. Tech support should never be part time. We aren't.) Help! Anyone from Vincent Lighting on the list? And that's before there's any set, or actors. I have different problems. We work mostly on a big thrust stage, with a 270 degree audience wrap. Everybody can see the whole stage, and they all deserve an appropriate picture. OK, they will all be different, but they have all paid the same. This can make design difficult. In-the-round is even worse, and one person's key light is another person's backlight. And I don't do enough upgrading of node software to even give hints. The one thing I do remember is DO NOT try to load Node software onto the console. I will try to get you information on this. What Nodes are you running? And what version software are you currently running. There is a document on the Strand website called SN110 read me first. You may want to check it out. Upgrading nodes can be a pain in the butt and some DOS knowledge is needed. The upgrade will be well worth the hassle of learning how the do it. X Connect on a laptop is the hot setup. And it will allow your laptop to be a control surface. Once you get things set up you may want to explore going wireless with your laptop. I have upgraded my node software. What worked for me was to boot my console (300 series) into DOS, and install the node software over the network. To do this you need to have upgraded your console OS, and Networker first. Sadly, all my notes and manuals are at the office.
