A number of sessions, safety ones too, that I wished to attend, were so crowded that people were standing in aisles and the back of the room, and blocking the doors. The session presenters did not seem to take note of this. I noted this during the three days I was at the conference. This has occurred in many conferences and I have brought it to the attention of the administration at the conference and to individual presenters, but this concern has not seemed to make a difference. Safety personnel who present safety sessions should be fully aware of the violation of the Fire and Safety Codes and provide the good example necessary, even if it means asking those who crowd the room to leave. Better preplanning and communication with the Health and Safety Commission about these safety sessions should be a given, so that they might provide professional advice to those who wish to do a given safety session, and ask for larger rooms from the conference committee. The Saturday morning Safety Session by Scott was in a large enough room. The others should have been. Please, bring to the attention of the USITT administration and the conference planning people, some of whom were safety people, that rooms of sufficient capacity should be planned for sessions that have many people, and if they are crowded, the session presenter should definitely ask those to leave who crowd the room, or stop the session, reschedule, when a larger Room can be obtained. Life Safety and Fire Safety, and the health of those in the rooms should always be taken into account. Also, the Fellows Address room, after the end, was a room where crowd control was definitely lacking as people rushed in for the Products before the audience from the Fellows Session was allowed out. Not good management nor good Crowd Management, and certainly a hazard to al. RF While I don't have any idea why the pics are showing up this way I do have a suggestion as that might help correct the issue. Once a file is corrupted, saving it again rarely fixes the problem. Try opening the image in Photoshop (where you say it looks right) then use the marquee tool to select the entire image. Copy it to the clipboard. Now create a new document (it should automatically set the size of the new image to match that of the image in the clipboard) Paste the clipboard into the new document, flatten the image and save it as a new version of the image. My bet is that that will fix your problem. But if it doesn't, remember that this advice is free and you get what you pay for! At one point when we were drinking there, they had six empty taps, Bud Light, Cider, and nothing behind the bar except Canadian Club and Pucker. Terrible excuse for a bar. Not always like that though... I have to stand up for my regular haunt, Deacon Brodies, on 46th between 8th and 9th, south side of the street, closer to 9th, up 3 steps. Liam and Andy are excellent bartenders, the place has great atmosphere, and music that's loud enough to be fun, but quiet enough for conversation. Why should actors work tech and/or SM? Top 10 reasons off the top of my head: 1) Employment options. It is the rare person indeed, in this business, who doesn't need a second (third, fourth) job for the slow times. Why not one that's in the business? 2) SM - Equity card. Sometimes it is easier to get your card as an ASM than it is as an actor. And you can go back and forth. 3) Get a better idea of what is actually going on in the world you inhabit. You'll be amazed by how much work goes on that you had no idea about. 4) Get to play with exciting and dangerous tools and equipment. 5) Learn to find your light 6) Learn to properly use a microphone 7) Learn what you (as an actor) can do to make life easier for the technicians, Stage managers, and designers you will encounter in the future. If making their life easier doesn't appeal to you, avoiding unconciously pissing them off should. 8) Learn how to communicate with technicians and stage managers. Similar to above. If you speak the language, you have a better chance of getting what you want or understanding what they are telling you. 9) Knowledge of what everyone on the production does (and how to communicate with them) will help you if you have any thoughts about directing. SM work will help ALOT if you have any thoughts about directing. 10) Until you have been treated like a peon by other actors while you were working hard and doing your job well for their benefit, you can't have a real idea of how crappy it feels. There was the grip truck driver (I think) in LA that gave up his gig to be the corpse, Alex, in "The Big Chill". Someone else got the driving gig (and usually someone has to *actually* die before they give up a studio grip position, so he wasn't getting it back). He was supposed to do all of the flashback scenes. Which got cut. Even the shot of his face in the scene at the top where they scan the body ended up on the cutting room floor. Fortunately, the folk that he was working with noticed his talent, and Kevin Costmore, er, Costner became a star. Oddly, he turned down a lead role in 'Wargames' for the opportunity...
