As I recall from discussions with the folk at Selecon, their innovative reflector/heatsink design is a direct result of the unavailability to them of the reflector technology used for the Shakespeare / Source Four. The likelihood of a hybrid design luminaire ever being produced is unfortunately fairly remote, or at least as distant as the expiration of the patent on those Shakespeare/Source Four reflectors. My question is: Who, at what booth, is handing out the Official Stagecraft List badge stickers this year? /s/ Richard _________________________ I am looking to attend the trade show this year in Las Vegas (LDI 2006). Does anyone have tickets to the trade floor? Thanks Daryl Redmon Resounding Light ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2006 09:18:44 -0400 Subject: Air Pump effects From: "Dougherty, Jim" Message-ID: For our production, we modified an existing top hat with a chimney made of aluminum flashing and a metal holder inside for a small piece of Z-Smoke tablet from Zeller International (aka a smoke cookie). We took precautions to make certain everything would stay where it should regardless of what the wearer did, and experimented with the size of the piece to get the run time we wanted. It was lit offstage just prior to the actor's entrance, and went out on its own. We tried to get a time that would establish the effect, and go out in time for the relevant line. The stuff burns pretty consistently, and cool, so it worked well. For the bird, we had a false bird in the bell jar (plastic bird covered with real feathers), and when the top was lifted, Maria swooped up the bird and cuddled/comforted it to show that it was still alive. We did it in 3/4, and decided to spend our time making sure we didn't kill the actor in the noose, rather than find a way to make a plastic bird fly away realistically. This worked fine for us, but by all means share what you finally do. - Jim Dougherty ATD, Middlebury College Theatre Dept. ------------------------------ Subject: RE: The quest for safe snow Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2006 09:38:12 -0400 Message-ID: From: "Alf Sauve" -----Original Message----- >From: Stagecraft [mailto:stagecraft [at] theatrical.net] On Behalf Of Idaho Scenic & Rigging >Sent: Friday, September 29, 2006 6:29 PM > >Not that I will ever use it, but I might. >This is why I read this list. ------------------------------------------------ Exactly, I've done snow numerous times, both on stage and outside, using numerous different methods. The outside one being one of my better effects. Up until Friday I didn't anticipate using snow in the near or far future, but that has changed. Suddenly all these "quest for safe snow" postings are relevant as I've got to stage an indoor display with........S N O W! Also, I ignored all the postings about interfacing radios to intercoms. Guess what suddenly became an issue last week? Alf Media Specialist (that our churchy title for a technical director) Mt Bethel UMC Marietta, GA USA ------------------------------ Reply-To: From: "C. For those of who are interested, a fellow lister, Sam Jones, now has a set of hoist/motor/rigging tools available for VectorWorks. (You may remember the discussion a while ago regarding "hoist" vs. "motor" and "motor-up" vs. "motor-down.") This tool set helps w. setting hoist trims, tracks various hoist data, and automates the dimensioning process. See www.autoplotvw.com for more info. Very-well done, Sam! Regards - C. You can get an exhibits-only badge (many exhibitors offer free passes) to get onto the exhibit floor, which is probably 20x bigger than USITT and can easily take a full day (or two) to go through. Just be sure to get the free pass from an exhibitor *before* you go to Vegas, many of them are on the stagecraft list and are happy to offer passes, otherwise you have to pay to see the exhibits. As far as workshops go, there are a lot fewer of them, and all end before the daily cocktails/dinners/parties etc. begin. - John ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2006 12:07:54 -0700 From: Jerry Durand Subject: missing mail Message-id: <7.0.1.0.0.20061002120621.01f1b8f8 [at] interstellar.com> Do to a typo in our SpamAssissan filters, there were some e-mails dropped by our server over the past couple of weeks (both incoming and outgoing). You could use a gel extender and put a metal screen in the front slot. That would eliminate the rock problem. Or, you could put the filter in the gobo slot. If you want maximum light intensity, then dichroics are the way to go - although they are expensive. Bill ------------------------------ End of Stagecraft Digest #970 *****************************
