Common USB to parallel converters are only made to communicate with printers. They won't work with scanners, zip drives, etc. because the USB connector is hard wired to certain pins in the parallel connector. Horizon may not use those pins or may use more pins that would be dead in the adapter. Your best bet would be to get a parallel PCMCIA card. The one by Quatech seems to have good compatibility and user reviews. You can get it from the manufacturer's website ( http://www.quatech.com/catalog/parallel_pcmcia.php ) for about $130, but I've seen it elsewhere for just slightly under $100. Hope that helps. I would be fine with this, except, no one wants to pay for one. Is this something OSHA could look into? Would they know what they are looking at, or do they just deal with cranes etc? Do they have = any authority at a state school? Is there some other organization = that deals with this? Any info would be appreciated. = Thanks Patrick Brambila Scene shop supervisor California State University, Los Angeles Dept. of Theater Arts and Dance ------------------------------ Message-ID: <90d9c9980610051147w4f235938g9463c5fe953752c2 [at] mail.gmail.com> Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2006 14:47:03 -0400 From: "Scott Parker" Subject: Vectorworks: rotating drawing Hello all, I'm having a Dickens of a time trying to find this in the help file. Working on 3D, I have a platform that I would like to work on from a head-on front view. The platform is not at a right angle to anything. I would like to rotate the entire drawing to align with the front of the platform so that I can add face details in "front" view. Then rotate the whole drawing back to my plaster line. I've tried 3d rotate, but it only gives me the window that asks me for exact angles. I know there must be a rotate to object command.... ? I've also tried playing with rotate plain with little success. The only cheat I've found is to select all and then rotate. This leaves out invisible layer items. Any suggestions? Actually, since I'm just knowledgeable enough in VW to be dangerous, one of the things I do with weirdly-rotated things is to copy them to a separate layer and position them aligned with the standard XYZ axes. I do my futzing on that layer, then do another copy-paste into the layer I want to rotate them in...a little clunkier, but even though I've fiddled with working planes before they still are a bit beyond my expertise. And it's not like I've got tons of free time to really become an expert. :) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20061005201838.40760.qmail [at] web33307.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2006 13:18:38 -0700 (PDT) From: J Burch Subject: Re: Auto CAD question In-Reply-To: > On 05 Oct, 2006, at 11:45 , b Ricie wrote: > > I was wondering if there is a program or download > that > > will allow me to open and view an auto cad file? > > I do not use CAD myself (still pencil and paper > here) > > but it would be nice to be able to view a file > without > > having to purchase the entire program. Autodesk has a free download that allows you to view, plot and publish drawings. The link is: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=6703438&siteID=123112 You can view dwf drawings (another autocad option to save formating, text or graphics within the file) with their free dwf viewer. The link: http://www.stanfordmarsh.co.uk/free_autocad_viewer.html Hope this helps. Jean Burch __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Rock It Cargo Er, that's two words. The three you might have been looking for are, "Rock-It Cargo, done!" Yeah. I went overseas *without* Rockit once... Once. The tour manager (slash band manager slash producer slash writer slash, well, you get the idea...) said that he was a close personal friend of Dennis DeConcini's and we wouldn't need a carne to get through customs. Needless to say, our European Tour was a paid two week vacation in London, and the gear went from LA to the custom shed in London to the US. Call Rock-It and forget the hassles.
