Again I'd like to point out that this is the most oft misquoted old saw
behind "Alas, poor Yorick, I new him well."  The corret saying is:
Good, Fast, or Cheap, Pick ONE.
This lets you know what their focus is.  We all know that they want all of
the above, and in larger quantities than are ever available, but we are
trying to put together what their favorite of the three is.  This way, we
can start making decisions without having to ask them every fifteen
minutes. If the budget is the master of the project, we know that the
desision that is correct is the one that's cheapest, and conversly, if time
is the underlying driving force, the fast one over the cheap one is going
to be the answer.  It keeps you from handing decisionmaking over to a
committee, and the phrases "Let me think about that" and its cousin, "I'll
bring it up and see what (fill in committee here) says".

  I was under Nadia and the torch as she flew into Times Square. It was 
an amazing rig. The wind had to be blowing 30 mph. It was tied off to 
the NASDAC building and to a crane. WOW!  My confetti effects left our 
cannons and blowers and made a sharp turn to the river.

I'm having a puzzling problem with an old LMI touring rack.  30 Dimmers, 
24 [at] 20A + 6 [at] 50A.  Control is an ETC Insight over DMX.

Dimmers 1,2,7,8,13,14,19,20,25,26 work fine.  Full control.  So that's 10 
out of 30.  My gut says that there's a power problem on the other two 
phases.  Metered the incoming power and everything reads fine.

Dimmer 5 has a bad control cube, and is at full always. So it has power 
to the module at least. So that's 11 out of 30.  Somewhat odd.

Dug into the rack and found a few loose connections on the brain side, 
nothing loose on the brawn side. 

The rack worked fine in our building, with the same console.  This has 
only appeared since it has moved downtown on a summer loaner.

I'm stumped.  Tech doesn't start until Monday, so I have a few days to 
fiddle although I don't really want to give up my weekend.

Any ideas?  I'll be calling Lite-trol in the morning, but would rather not 
have to pay Steve Short to come out here (or send the rack in to him).

On some racks there is a tiny switch to select the incoming 
power from 3 phase to single phase... Do you have one?  If 
it is triggering all the dimmers on the other 2 phases at 
the wrong time, you might get weird results.

Or perhaps phase 1 and neutral got mislabelled and swapped 
somehow?  Re- meter that stuff just to be sure?

My recollection of LMI's is that the dimmers (especially the big 48 module
rolling racks) tend to un-seat when being moved.  The first thing we do
(did) was to re-seat all the dimmers fully - usually using a foot placed
firmly on the face of the dimmers (grin).

Call Steve S. anyway, just make sure to wait till tomorrow at 3:57, like I
did last week (another grin).

Steve,
     Have you checked the DMX cable? Have you checked the control board to
make sure it is still recognizing the 50A dimmers correctly? Sometimes with
some boards that will create the problem you're talking about. Otherwise it
sounds like possibly two bad brain cards of the three. Have you swapped them
to see if the "good" dimmers change?
