Stephen,

DEFINITELY reads like you've dropped a couple of phases (B&C). This makes
sense based on the sequence of the dimmers that are functional.
Have you pulled the modules/cards out and metered at the bus inside the
rack?
Double check that there is power at your disconnect/mainbreaker incoming
feed at the load side. From there, work your way in to the rack and inspect
and meter all power connections (at both sides if there is a breaker/fuse
in-line). Keep working you way in until power doesn't meter and you should
find the problem. Classic case of "High Impedance Air Gap".
Some one mentioned a Single Phase/ 3 Phase switch... that probably isn't the
case as that would give you 2/3 of the rack instead of the 1/3 you've got.

I'm having a puzzling problem with an old LMI touring rack. 30 Dimmers,
24 [at] 20A + 6 [at] 50A. Control is an ETC Insight over DMX.
Dimmers 1,2,7,8,13,14,19,20,25,26 work fine. Full control. So that's 10
out of 30. My gut says that there's a power problem on the other two
phases. Metered the incoming power and everything reads fine.
Any ideas? I'll be calling Lite-trol in the morning, but would rather not
have to pay Steve Short to come out here (or send the rack in to him).

True, but the fail-on of dimmer 5 puzzles me.  It has power, otherwise
it couldn't be stuck on.

That's this morning's task.  What's frustrating is that the rack has
no buss bars.  Every dimmer has an individual wire feeding from the
breaker, and an individual wire returning to the neutral buss.  But
I'll meter each slot, as well as shuffling around the control cards.

Thanks for the input everyone.  I've got a few numbers to call when I
get on-site this morning and pull this thing apart again.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me on the list, or privately. After
five minutes on the phone with Litetrol we figured out the problem --

The ME had addressed the rack incorrectly. On the LMI-RD racks, the
addressing is counter-intuitive so it looked right to me, but wrong to
the rack brain.  Kevin at Litetrol had heard years ago the correct
addressing and that solved the problem.

Now to track down a manual for the rack so next time I can RTFM before
panicking. :)

Well, I'm not sure how to address the rack as anything but dimmers
1-30, but the correct settings for that are 01, 05, 09.  This is an
LMI RD rack, *not* the L-86 racks.  The L-86 racks at least have the
formula written on the control card.

We have just released a new Windows demo program.  It emulates a 12 channel 
two scene preset board using our USB to DMX converter.  The program is 
completely usable as-is or you may modify it to suit your needs.

1.  This program only works with the Model 4201 USB to DMX512 Converter.

2.  If you've installed the optional serial port driver, it MUST be 
uninstalled before the using the demo program.  To uninstall it, see your

Visual Studio 6.0 (C++) and WIN98DDK.  If you need a copy of the DDK,
