I have to thank you for the heads up on "Sing Faster". My DVD copy arrive last week and I finally got a chance to sit down and watch it.  What a hoot.  I can't wait to pass it around to all my friends.  I am still amazed at the guys tacking the groundcloth in place. (the dumping the tacks in their mouth part and how quickly they could drive them home).

I have a sister in law that moved to New York about 15 years ago after
graduating from the acting program at an Illinois University with a degree
in acting.  She wanted to take a year off to get her mind and body together
before she started auditioning.  Apparently she is still working of on the
mind and body thing as she has never auditioned for anything.

She works as a maitre'd... and is quite successful at it.

But she still considers herself an actress.

Why are so many of us "used to be" musicians?  I would guess that most of us
have an artistic side which indicate an uncertain amount of sensitivity.
Sensitivity usually lives in many of the senses.

I bet a lot of us are good cooks too.

I got this DVD out of the library just yesterday.  I'm terribly 
excited.  There was a thread about it though?  I need to be not so

Yeah... just look at our waistlines!!!  ;)

I think it's an ability to appreciate the finer artistic things in life... 
things that the hoi polloi generally don't "get". 

Remember the thread on kinds of scotch? 

Many of us have traveled extensively, worked with clothing/props worth more 
than our annual salary, met "stars" and even liked a few. We're at home in a 
wide variety of cultures. Food, music, drama are all expressions of culture. 

And most of all... there's something about that thrilling moment of MAGIC 
that happens when the audience simultaneously inhales or bursts into applause 
that sends shivvers up our spines. I've had that happen as a singer, as a 
theatrical director, and as a stagehand. Never needed illegal drugs... I always got 
my thrills from the stage.

Music (band) was a lot of fun.  I liked the music, the people, the
activities, but I never saw playing the baritone as a career.  Theatre
is far more eclectic and appeals to my desire to do lots of different
things.  Besides, I just was not that good of a musician - I hated to
sit in a chair and practice - boring.  

BTW, it was a fellow band member who got me involved in doing backstage
work in high school.

I was recently asked why we do all that work to put on fireworks shows 
since the pay isn't very good.  The sound of thousands of people cheering 
after a show is worth a lot of money.  I guess you can't explain it to 
someone who hasn't done any sort of live show.

Fellow list folk.  I wanted to let you all know that I have placed a simple 
resource online that could help some of you solve some problems.

Have you had these (or similar program copy problems).....

* Listing of the hairdresser above the TD?
* Leaving out of the now important "warnings" (smoke, strobe, gunshots . . 
.)
* Forgetting the playwright's listing or the licensing agent (potential 
lawsuit)
* Forgetting to note that there is an intermission
* Inability to distinguish between "crew" and designers
* Use of "old" titles instead of current ones

etc. etc. etc.


I have been burned by this so often that I FINALLY decided to do a little 
about it. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this earlier, or why someone 
else hadn't but I created a checklist of program copy and order.   While 
indeed one could debate the order part  I think that the checklist serves a 
great need.

So I have put it online to share with all.  It is not elaborate, but is 
somewhat thorough. (I'd be happy to entertain additions).
