Yep.  Subscribe to the theatre-sound list and a dozen people who actually have 
live and theatrical sound courses in their curriculum (which _they_ put together 
;-) will tell you all about them (and ones they know about and recommend as 
well) and why Full Sail is not really the right place for this.

Hello all,

 We just got brand new computers here (finally) & the University took our o=
ld computers & mouse pads. So now I have these beautiful P4 PCs with 19" LC=
D thin monitors & no mouse pads. I have a mouse pad from SECOA from the las=
t USITT & called them about getting some more. They're looking to see what =
they still have left over. So I thought I would see if anyone knew of any c=
ompanies that had mouse pads available, that would be willing to give me so=
me for our new computers. =


I'm open for suggestions.

I would and do but I don't want to waste my time plowing through some glossy
glad-handed website.

I wandered around the site for a while and still don't know the difference
between plywood and underlayment.  A search of the site for "underlayment"
brings up a page on Glulam floor beams.

Among other fascinating details (plywood is great for building furniture),
the site claims that plywood is available in 1/4", 9/32", 11/32", 3/8",
15/32", 1/2", 19/32", 5/8", 23/32", and 3/4".  I have the feeling that these
are "names" rather than "sizes".

I am a bit out of sorts these days from pressure, lack of sleep, and
whelming demands of a fledgling TV series which is apparently being run by
committee.

Check with your favorite Office Depot store.  They have red mouse pads
with the Office Depot logo that normally sell for two or three
dollars, but if you ask the manager nicely he will likely give you a
few.

Barring that, find a SCUBA diver and cut a chunk out of his
wetsuit...LOL

My wife is saving her bouquet from our wedding.  She did the whole
drying by hanging in the closet thing and now wants a way to preserve /
display the flowers.  Is their some sort of spray shelack or will that
disolve them.  She'd also like them to be not so _Great Expectations_

Interesting "behind the scenes" story on NPR last Monday.

Reporter makes reference to "1700 lights and 800 speakers", and someone 
interviewed in the story states that the weight of the trusses required the
addition of 59 pieces of steel weighing 65 tons to the overhead structure of

For all you plywood buffs,

The apa.org site has downloadable forms in .pdf files.  One of those forms is 
the 104 page "Plywood Product Standard Handbook, Form V996.  It's a 
manual of voluntary standards for the manufacture, grading, measuring, 
shipping of plywood products.  

Pages 64 and 65 deal with measuring size and squareness.  Plywood can be 
shipped at up to 18% moisture content, but is to be measured at a 9% 
moisture content to + or - a percentage of the listed dimensions.  Basically, it 
can be long or short by 1/16" in both directions, fat or thin by a percentage, 
and 1/8" out of square over the 8' length.  Double the m.c. at shipping, 
change the m.c. all along the shipping and handling process, and you've got a 
lot of possible variations, even within an individual panel.

Here, what's sold as 3/4 is stamped 23/32, and you can get a 23/32 router 
bit to make dadoes for the actual size of the plywood.

Just some more fuel for the dying fire, 
and maybe a wee bit of light, too.

While I no longer work there for reasons I will not go into in a public forum.  I would like to
point out that if a Full Sail type school is what this student is looking for then remember that
there are actually two different sound programs at Full Sail.  The Recording Arts program is the
more studio oriented while the Show Production Program specializes in live event support.  If you
have questions I would recommend contacting Dana Roun, the program director of Show Production
rather than going through the recruiting office.  They have a history of forgetting to mention
that Show Pro exists.  his email address is droun [at] fullsail.com

Susan Kelleher still works there and is a member of this list as well so she may be able to answer
questions too.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have very little experience on this topic. I 
will talk to some vendors, but maybe you rigging types can answer a 
couple basic questions... I have some damaged corner truss sections that 
need replacing - this truss is attached to a large scenic unit to provide 
additional stiffening. It was originally purchased in 1997 from a local 
vendor that no longer exists.

The original spec called for Universal 15" triangular aluminum (2" OD) 
truss. Are these things standardized between manufacturers such that bolt 
holes would line up? Just Googling around a bit I didn't see anything on 
the web in this size. Who manufactures this stuff? Any good websites with 
specs?

Universal Manufacturing still exists.  They're in Michigan near Detroit.  I 
went looking for a website but didn't find one.  Call my office in the am for a 
phone number.  When you get Universal, you want to talk to Vicky.

I don't recall the article right off but I've talked  to and observed the 
lifestyle of several freelancers over the years.

You're correct, it doesn't look very likely, but it was a nice try ;-)

But I took a look at some standard plywood here in Norway, and if my
memory serves me well (I have had 3 days off in between, and still am
off) if was something like 1197mm by 2397mm, which well compile with 2
* 600mm c-c stud width, and a nominal heigh. And a bit smaller to fit,
as you correctly state.

But it doesn't suit this 1220mm x 2440mm dimension. Looks like a
mystery why it is in that size...

But 3 * 16" c-c studwidth seems very close to 1220 mm. (16 * 3 * 25.4
mm = 1219 mm). But regrettfully it seems to be 1 mm or so on the wrong
side.
