I have a couple of questions about semi trailers in
the US that I hope some of the list members can help
me with.
In other's experience, is it more common for a venue
or a trucking company to provide wheel chocks for
trailers? If it is the venue that usually supplies the
chocks, what size range do most semi trailer tires
fall into? The trailer sitting at the dock right now
has a tire OD of 36", but they look a little on the
small side.
Or if anyone will give me the name of one or more of
the trucking companies that specialize in
theater/concerts/etc, I will give them a call to ask.
I can't remember the names off the top of my head and
I must be using the wrong words to search the internet
because I'm striking out so far.

I work at the Menards Distribution Center and they commonly use chunks
of 4x4 lumber as chocks for those large trailers...I think they're about
fifty feet long or so.  Of course, the chocks are more as a precaution.
I don't know if they'd be able to stop a trailer on an incline from
rolling all by themselves.  All of the trailers are backed up to loading
docks so even if they did roll they'd only go about six inches.  In
conclusion, my answer is 4x4.  I wouldn't take that as bible truth,
though.

        Sometimes the placement of wheel chocks has another significance.
I used to pay pilots for their time based upon when the wheel chocks of
the plane were removed at the departure city until they were set at the
arrival city. The pilots often earned $120,000 per year in 6 minute
intervals.

Please take special care that you do *not* report the Stagecraft list 
as spam. You will cause problems for many people on the list by doing 
so.

The most common reason for reporting a mailing list as spam is trouble 
(or not wanting to deal with) unsubscribing. It's easy to unsubscribe 
from Stagecraft, sending email to stagecraft-off [at] theatrical.net, but 
like all list requests, you must answer a confirmation email to be sure 
that *you* really made the request. If you have trouble unsubscribing, 
write to: stagecraft-web [at] theprices.net


This leads me to the specific problem that prompted my reminder.

If you hear from AOL members wondering why they aren't getting the 
list, it is because AOL has temporarily blocked the list server's 
connections. Someone reported nine list messages (from about a week 
ago) as spam through AOL, and we are thus banned (I'm presuming 
temporarily...) for excessive complaints. If it lasts long, I'll look 
into re-routing mail to AOL through another server.

Unfortunately I can only narrow the culprit down to one of 15 "single 
message" AOL subscribers. It may well have been an accident, but the 
result is the same whether it was accidental, lazy, or whatever.

I'm in the process of applying for AOL's bulk sender list, but problems 
like this don't help!

I've had similar problems with Hotmail/MSN and Yahoo, though Hotmail, 
MSN, and a coupla the ".edu's" on the list are more likely to simply 
randomly refuse connections... contact me off list if you want info 
regarding alternative email service.

As of now, I'm still getting stagecraft messages through AOL.
 
I only report, as SPAM, messages with very suspicious sender names -  usually 
involving a lot of random alphanumeric characters - and obviously  commercial 
messages ("performance" drugs & investments seem to be the  most common).
 
Based on the very few SPAM messages I get, I'd say that AOL's efforts are  
effective.
Hope you can clear up the issue soon.

Noah, , I am using AOL exclusively, , and to my knowledge I haven't missed a 
thing ( single message subscriber here ) so I don't think your AOL problem is 
system wide

I do check the "spam file" on AOL about every other day, ,  every once in a 
while there's a Stagecraft item there, , I always indicate "this is not spam", 
, but this is a very infrequent happening

I ocasionally get a few stagecraft emails put into my "spam" folder on AOL, 
which I can't access on my Mac at home. When I'm able to open that mail box, I 
transfer them as "This is not spam" and then read them from the inbox. 
Interestingly... I have been getting your messages about the list and the spam 
problems. 

I *think* emails go into the "spam" folder when more than 5 names are in the 
"send to" box. Not certain though. Haven't been able to find a common thing 
with the ones that end up there.
