Joe thanks for doing the stickers!!

Now as for a gathering:

As the resident Cruise Director for the list I'd like to suggest this.

Lets meet on the floor during the day on Saturday.

 Lets attempt to gather
 at the ELS booth in the range of 3:45 to 4:15 and then after getting
hamstered on their beverages, maybe we can move the gathering to the TMB
booth and harrass Mr. Romaine. (I know it will have tables, unless Joe has
enough room for a gang of us) we can fly by City Theatrical on the way and
see if John still has a voice. after that we'll see if we can coordinate a
dinner or drinking mission elsewhere in Sin City.

I don't know about BC or Spokane, but if you're willing to go another 5 hrs 
west of Spokane, give Capital Playhouse a call - they're in Olympia, WA, 
USA.  They have (had?) all the Audreys.  I don't know the number offhand, 
but their web site is www.capitalplayhouse.com .

Oh, I'll still have a voice on Saturday - Sunday's the day where it all gets
to be a little much...;)

Actually, things should be pretty quiet this year, since there aren't any
new earth-shattering things for me to unveil. Which means I'd *love*
visitors, there should be time to actually talk!

I just finished tabulating the results of this week's Lightwright survey,
and knowing how much you folks appreciate technological progress, I thought
you'd appreciate hearing some of the things people want the next Lightwright
to do for them:

* Fetch me diet coke
* Make coffee
* Change my flat tire
* Hang focus and cue the show for me
* Cut gel
* Blow me
* A back massage every once in a while
* Focus the lights
* Make me more money
* Input all the information for me!
* Read my mind
* Talk to me nicely when a nasty LD is at the [name of theater]
* Teach my assistant how to use VectorWorks

Actually, "make coffee" was a recurring request. Anybody know where to get a
DMX-controlled coffee maker?...;)

I'm just about to set up my new HME Pro 850 Wireless system and I'm
hoping someone has already been there and done that with regards to
rechargeables for the beltpacks.  The systems have a removable tray with
spots for 6 AA batteries held in a single line with what looks like
standard 9 volt tabs broken up with one terminal  at each end on top of
the line of batteries. =20

I had hoped to go rechargeable with these, but I'm doubting a system
designed for 9 volts is going to be happy running on the 7.2 I would get
from six NiMH batteries.  So I figured I would need at least seven to
get within an operating tolerance (maybe eight).  Unfortunately, that
means I need a different battery sled -- etc, etc, etc.

Anybody already been down this road and have a solution?  In the ideal
world, it would be someone who has a ready-made rechargeable pack for
this application (as per usual -- I don't have a lot of time to spend on
this . . . )

Hi everyone,
    Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Mike Benonis, and I am the
sound designer for Running Dog Productions, the drama department at Stone
Bridge High School in Ashburn, VA.  I've been working with live sound for
about a year or so (excluding playing with DJ equipment for a few years
before), and also help with anything else that is needed for our
productions.

    Although this post is not in reference to any show that we're working on
(as a matter of fact, it's for my Halloween display), I'd imagine that some
people on this list might have some idea where I can purchase a small but
powerful motor and a number of pulleys.  The project is a flying object
pulley system, similar to the one at this website:

    The motor should be able to run on common power sources (i.e., 9V
batteries).  Also, the pulleys should be open around the sides.  As far as
price, I would like to keep all of this stuff relatively inexpensive -
probably $40 tops, including shipping.

Just curious, since the brake ....I mean _ LOCK_ Handle 
pivots away and down from the lock body, how do know you are 
on spike before you close the lock?

Seems to me that a fixed reference, like the top of the lock 
body is more consistent... if you need a warning stripe to 
tell you the high spike is coming, use two colors a fixed 
distance apart.

One rigger I know puts the in trim on the back line in a line with his eyes 
and the angle bracket that holds the j bar to the wall.  That works well 
for him.  The out trim, in a different color is on the front line at the 
top of the handle for the rope lock where approximate works fine.
On a related note, a recent group in here ran rope lights all along the 
wall behind the j bar, Red for standby, green for go.  The stage manager 
ran them from a switchbox at his call desk backstage.  It worked quite well.

When I was out with "The Full Monty" last year, one of the venues we
toured to had something similar, two different colors for different
cues, standard on for standby, off for go. I think it was either Broward
Center in Fort Lauderdale or Wharton in East Lansing, but I'm not 100%
sure.

    I don't know about DMX coffee maker, but I did see a SMTP controlled
toaster at a trade show once.  It put the bread in and took the toast out when
it was done.  It was very popular first thing in the morning too.  I don't know
if the guy who took it home still has it or not.

As do I.  I consider theatre done by students, however, as amateur theatre
supervsed by professionals. A lot of the ameteur theatre I have been
involved in has been amateurs supervised by myself and a few other
professionals.  Still amateur theatre, regardless of the quality of the
outcome.  When the decisions of what goes where how are made by "Can we
afford it?"  "Does it put butts in seats or give us more seats?", and "Is
it worth what it costs in return revenue?" then its getting on towards pro.
I still consider you a pro, and I was mostly teasing Frank.  Mostly.
Academia is a grey area, but if I had to put it in one box or the other,
it'dgo in amateur.  I'd like to re-emphasize that this status does NOT
predict the quality of the results, nor is it indicated by the quality of
the results!
