We have been using two way radios on the road. The
problem is they go dead very quickly, as a result the
A.T.D, Master carp. and myself use Squeaky Clown
noses. The nose works great when you are attempting to
find someone through a sea of people in a strange
venue, and the best part is no batteries to go dead.

I read that Apple gave these to the employees of their new Apple Mini 
stores. If one is near you, you should check it out.

Wired wrote a little thing about them:
	The mini-stores will use IP-based communications gear from Vocera 
Communications, which includes a small, 2-oz. "badge" that clips to 
your pocket or ID lanyard, and uses Wi-Fi to link together other badges 
and even a telephone system. It provides all the features of a 
telephone, a two-way radio, a pager, and voice mail, all using voice 
commands. A Vocera network can span buildings, cities or even states, 
allowing you to call someone no matter where they are, just by saying, 
"Call Steve Jobs."

Not at all. I'm sure that many of us know how to make and detonate explosive 
devices. I am sure that you do. But, safely.

Both of us could, if we wished, prepare a car bomb which would lay waste a 
city block. But, we are more civilised.

Welcome to my world.  Today is day 24 in a row without break, and I can
commiserate.  I'm  a carpenter between sound gigs till 'Dracula' opens, not
because I need the money (I made as much on one mixing gig as I did an
entire week of carping) but because I love theatre, and the scenic
designer/artist that I get to work with.  I don't build sets for anyone
else.  Not anyone.  The checks are nice, but they aren't what I'm used to.
I couldn't even eek out the meager existence that I'm used to on a carps
pay, and I do NOT live luxuriously.  I am blessed with beer tastes to go
with my beer budget.  What struck me as od during this last three weeks of
set building was what I was thinking as I built.   I was thinking about the
audience.  Thier willingness to suspend disbelief, was I doing what was
necessary to help them, and thier wonder.
Carps don't get paid enough, neither do painters, nor soundcrew or
electricians, loaders riggers, etc.  And it ain't because these shows make
no money.  'Theatre People' have money, and 'theatre people' don't.  It was
hard to look at the Mercedes Kompressor driven by the producer of the last
show I toured with while cashing my meager paycheck.  I went out for what
would be considered per diem by most road dogs, again, a favor for a friend.  
Something should be done.  Until the people that actually MAKE theatre can
dress at least as nice as the people who go to theatre, and drive something
younger than they are, things'll just be wrong.  Fewer talented folk will
be drawn to theatre craft, and artists will sel their wares elsewhere.
Theatre will continue to dwindle until it's digitized...
