We have a storage area across campus. We were going to have a trap storage
room. One problem we are less then two blocks from the Wabash River and
found a great well under the foundation. So storage under the stage went
away. The theatre is still going to be one of most beautiful theatres in
Indiana. Opening date Nov. 05. Come down and see it anytime.

Oh wise and powerful list.  In the past, I have used my Rosco/DHA MK4 (gobo
rotator/effect wheel) controller to dim LEDs and small 12 volt indicator
lights.  It has served me well so far.

For an upcoming production I need to push this technology even further.
Does anyone know the current handling capacity of this unit.  Or conversely
the current draw on the rotators?

The absolute best way is just to fly it out, and leave it henging.

Next best is to roll it. Carpet warehouses usually have heavy 4" diameter 
cardboard tubes around, and rolling it around one of these should keep it 
uncreased. This assumes that you have somewhere to store such a thing.

We are loading out our current configuration of our black box
tomorrow. A new addition to our config this year was a Black RP. It
came to us just folded in a box straight off of another show. We now
need to store it until next year. Our next semester config is in the
round, so we have no use for it. Is there a proper way, or suggested
way in how to store / fold it for a long duration to help to decrease
the wrinkling?

Hey All,

I am looking to rent 4 - 6 Gam SX4 gobo rotators for our WIZ production.  I
am having a difficult time finding anyone that rents them.  Is there anyone
here that has leads on this.  I found one location, but found the rental
price to be high and looked at renting a couple of VL1000 Vari-lites and
board for about 1/2 to 2/3 the price.  The down side of renting the
VL1000's is the programming time versus using SX4s.

I believe that GAM rents their effects directly.  You might want to
contact Steve Hoffman at GAM, he's a frequent list lurker and has been the
person I've talked to about renting the FilmFX and GAMTorch.

I ain't providing no alibis for now one.  I know a bunch of the art crew,
I'm betting it was a roach dropped behind scenery. Just kidding, I'm sure
that his re-hab went just fine...

My favorites:

All very dissapointing when I discovered the nwe Viet-Namese/Sushi place on
Congress St. was just a front.  I was looking at having a new eatery to
hang out in.  Looked real authentic, too!

Yes, we all know that consumer gear specs are a bit optomistic, but I still
don't see them making a spec twenty times what they can deliver.  I know
that the 36 mpg sticker is optomistic, and "your mileage may vary", but if
I bought 40 mpg and got 2, I'd have a case.
Still doesn't explain where you get a 30-1 contrast ratio for TV yet,
though.  Odd how we've strayed from that point once specs were available
for those aren't familiar with TV technology to peruse at will.  Explain
the 30-1 ceiling for television to me again, Frank?

Everone will tell you to roll it.  All this does is make the wrinkles
random, and make the thing hard to store.  If its a FastFold, Dalite, or
similar (sewn into a pleather border with snaps all around it):

Fold it top to bottom, pleather to pleather.
Fold it top to bottom again, screen material to screen material (i.e.,
don't fold it all the way up, just to where the pleather starts.  Pleather
and RP material shouldn't meet, and that goes double for the snaps!)
Wash, rinse, repeat until you have a strip that is as wide as the bag it
came in.  If there is no bag, get one, make one, whatever.  
Fold the left over to the right, pleather to pleather.
Fold the left over to the right again, RP mterial to RP material (again,
just short of the pleather)
Bag it.]
Next time you use it, get the thing out early and aim a  coupla 575W or
better lights at it until it reaches just above room temperature and
stretch it on the frame.

I just rented a bunch of rotators from Main Lights in Delaware. Tho 
they were part of a whole package, the price did not strike me as out 
of line. You might check them out. I've also had good luck with Fisher 
Theatrical in Columbia MD, tho I cannot say for sure if they rent 
rotators or not...

I was taught 1)fold the screen in half 2)then almost in half again so 
the folded edge just meets the black border without touching it.  
Depending on size repeat step 2. The fold the opposite direction in the 
same manner.  This keeps the snaps from touching the RP surface.  Any 
moisture can cause the steel snaps to rust and cause unfixable marks.  
I see many rental screens come with sheets of tissue paper between 
layers of the folds if you think the snaps might possibly touch the 
screen surface.

I'll ditto the wrinkle thing.  Most fastfold designs are stretched 
enough that most wrinkles will be gone in less than a day of hanging.
