Erm, just a skweek w too much ime on his hands, but couldn't you support a pipe on the offstage ends with cable or something to prevent stretch?  Would the center bow too much?

The ends of the scrim are better supported because there's a side hem.  Yes,
the center would be the part that bows.

We could always laminate the scrim between two very large pieces of
Plexiglas (r).

Ah, I think I was unclear.  I'm talking about during the run of a show, 
which for us is about two weeks.  The rest of the time it is in a very 
nice bag in storage.

We do have a chain, but we found that it doesn't keep the scrim tight 
enough and then it doesn't look good.  So we add a pipe to the chain 
pocket.

So, my revised question is: for the two weeks or so that it's in the 
air, am I causing more harm than I'm preventing by flying it up out of 
reach at night?

Broadway shows run for years and years, and nobody flies anything in to the
deck overnight.

If stretching or getting snagged is a problem and there's nothing on the
floor in the way of it, they'll use wire guides down the sides.

While everyone here can surmise about the existence of an FBI file on each 
of them, I KNOW for certain that I have one, courtesy of a special agent I 
met for a debriefing back in 1985.  After I arranged for a second secretary 
from the Soviet UN mission to speak at Rhode Island College on the subject 
of US/Soviet relations in '83, I neglected to let the local FBI in on the 
act.  After the speaker came, spoke and left, I got a call from the local 
SAC reaming me out for not alerting them and threatening an 
investigation.  Two years later, when Gorbachev came to power, I invited 
the Soviet mission press secretary to come and talk about glasnost and 
perestroika (no, I am not referring to Angels in America).  This time, I 
contacted the local FBI office, was interviewed by a special 
counterintelligence agent and given the go-ahead to hold the 
talk.  Afterwards, he re-interviewed me and after answering his questions, 
I asked about my file.  Officially, I am on record as having unauthorized 
contact with senior Soviet officials and the agent warned that if I ever 
wanted to go into politics, my file could be obtained under Freedom of 
Information and used against me in a campaign.  How's THAT for an on-topic 
but non-list purpose winters tale?

It will be fine.

We did a production of Macbeth a couple months ago.  The floor was 3/4", th=
ough I'm not sure if it was plexi or lexan (I think lexan).  It was purchas=
ed clear, and "frosted" by sanding both sides with a rented floor sander.  =
The frosting was rather fine, so there really wasn't much depth to acquire =
dirt, etc.  Shoe scuffs were removed with a large art eraser, and the requi=
site blood (Macbeth) mopped up with few problems.  The floor was down for a=
lmost 9 weeks, with few issues. =20

Frosting the plexi isn't going to change the material.  Moving things acros=
s clear plexi will have the same result, and in the case of clear you'll se=
e the scratches.  Scratches will be much less visible on a frosted surface.

rosted side out. The production manager seems to think that once you frost =
it, it'll only get deeper scratches on it as people walk on it, move stuff =
across it, etc, and that we'll have to resand it before every weekend. Does=
