One of the things I love about this field is its diversity. = You can do anything and everything while working in theatre, or so it seems. Maybe I will peruse engineering; I still have plenty of time to decide. = I didn't like working at the school anymore, so I tried to find somewhere else. I did and I am loving it, but the shows almost over and I want to = keep going!=20 As for MON, AZ I don't even know where that is, but I can't work there unless it is in my area. We will see, maybe he will see this thread and take interest. I already did get one reply from someone in the area, = and hopefully that works out. The people in this group are amazing, Thank you everyone for all of your advice, and everyone else for taking the time to read it. As I continue = to get these emails, it makes me more and more excited to do stagecraft. Get a degree as a structural engineer = and do scenic/rigging/theatrical design and installations. Perhaps combine = some=20 archetecture too. Or get a degree in electrical engineering (computer=20 engineering?) and design/build lighting things. =20 Tech theatre LOVES people who are masters of more-than-one-trade. Makes = you=20 more marketable too. You interested in sound? Chris Babbe from this list is in MON, AZ (where ever=20 the heck that is) and would be a great person for you to do some volunteering=20 with. He's smart, funny and will teach you to properly wrap cable.=20 You said:<<(I do not like the way my Theatre teacher treats students, it = is=20 through a system of negative reinforcement and he often blames his shortcomings=20 on others.) He always tells us that is how "real-world" theatre is so I = want to find out if it is really like that>> I can guarantee you that you can find places like that and places that = are=20 not at all like that. It's all in the people who are on the show. One = right you=20 have as an adult that you don't enjoy now is that if you hate the gig, = you=20 don't have to stay. I'd venture to say that everyone on this list has = had a=20 crappy job at some time or another but we like the fundamentals of the career=20 enough to keep coming back.=20 It's like the story of the two salesmen sent to rural Africa. One wired = back to his employer "No one wears shoes here, send me home." The other wired = "No one wears shoes here! Send me a thousand pairs! Everyone needs them!!!" = You=20 will get exactly what you expect to find most times. If you mean hardwired boxes on the ends of multicable, in my honest opinion you're making a HUGE mistake. Make it modular--I'd even go so far as to say you shouldn't have long tails hardwired on your drops either, as multicable gets heavy. Multipin connectors are far from delicate--I've only seen two broken Socapex connectors in person, while I've dealt with many dozens of broken 2P&G, Edison, and twistlock. Though certainly not recommended practice, Socopex connectors will generally survive a 20' fall unscathed. Yes, they are slightly more complicated than single circuits to mate, but if you can manage to hook up a garden hose at home you'll be fine. I believe you're in DC? If you'd like to come see how we use our (Socapex) facility in person just let me know... --Sean Sean R. Deull" Without firsthand experience, I have heard from a number of people that the added expense and "delicacy" of the Socapex -- particularly if a lot of people are handling them, frequently outweigh the virtues. We're going with drop boxes in our new facility. With this addition, the software can now be used as a Media Server remote controlled from most lightning console. You can now assign visuals, camera inputs, effect parameters, etc.. to the sliders and buttons of a DMX console and have full control over your visuals and effects through the console. This solution offers much more flexibility than most hardware media servers at a very competitive price since most recent low cost computers are capable of playing high quality video. To connect a DMX control machine to a computer with ArKaos, you can use either the ArtNet Ethernet protocol or a DMX-USB interface. You can find more information at http://www.arkaos.net/software/vjd_description.php To allow easy automation of very complex events ArKaos is also compatible with the Medialon Show Control system, this version adds several new commands to this protocol. The application is fully compatible with the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.3.x, Mac OS 9.x and Windows XP.
