I worked on a production of 'Dr. Faustus' in 2000 at the Yale Dramat 
that had been adapted by two undergrads.  It was trimmed fairly 
heavily and was staged partly to implement their concept of Faust 
portrayed by a puppet.  I don't have direct contact information for 
the two adapters, both now graduated and living in New York 
(presumably trying to make a living in theatre,) but if you want, I 
can relay an e-mail to them through the online alumni directory.

Nah, I've met Ray a couple of times... I don't think you could kill that man
if you dropped a ton of "The Bomb Dropped, and the Survivors Turned Out to

A true legend of the theatre has passed on.  Peter Foy died this afternoon
in Las Vegas.

To show that life is full of unexplainable wierdness.....He was a Daily
Double question on Jeopardy this evening.  He watched the show every
night.

It was an honor to have worked with him.

Hi Mark,
I dont think you saw the "entire" effect!  Cary and I were under that
platform (for the rehearsal take)!  On the "real" take, I loaded the CEO
into place and covered his eyes for safety, then... Cary manually hit the
sheet with a steel ramrod (from under the platform).  The construction
basically went like this:  The platform was only partially topped. The open
area was covered by large expanded steel that had a slot cut out for the
glass to slide thru.  The platform had four or five 1"x 8" pieces of wood
that ran lengthwise (think of floor joists) to support the grate and hold
the 4' x 8' x 1/4" sheet of tempered/frosted glass upright.  Underneath the
platform, a HD visquene/carpet bag caught the shattered glass as it fell
through the grate.  We were able to break four sheets before we had to empty
the bag.

It does sound kinda 'ho-key', but the effect did go very well.  The only
thing I see that might be a problem is the noise factor.  When the glass
shatters, it is very loud!!!  Also, if you are anywhere near the effect when
it goes, don't forget to wear full goggles AND face shield.  You will get
some stray glass shards where you least expect it. From this past
experience, if it is possible to aquire/manufacture it, I would highly
recommend the solenoid plunger idea to break the glass, instead of manually
breaking it.  Primarily for safety reasons.

I just worked on some corporate job at a hotel,  and what they used was a 3'
x 8' tempered glass piece.  It was hung, as to have about a foot sticking
above the frame, hidden from view. They had a solenoid plunger to strike the
glass on cue. The whole thing then shattered into a pile of glass crumbles,
onto the the floor.

At first, I thought it was a bit ho-key, (WTF? was my first reaction) but it
seemed to work, and to be safe. It did seem like a PITA, but it looks easier
than casting something.

There is a company in Norway http://www.fogscreen.com/index.html   who have
patented a fog curtain using laminar air flows to contain the sheet.
However patented this may be it is not new technology as Illuminati
experimented and demonstrated this donkeys years ago.

I am sad to hear of Peter's passing.  He was a true legend in our industry.
